Supercell organized last year a Clash Royale League esports event. It was a big event, and that’s why they just announced that there will be a Clash Royale League event this year too. Aside from the fact that Clash Royale is a widely played, the popularity of this event comes from its prize pool. Last year it was $1,000,000. This year they announced the prize pool to be at least $1 million, my guess is it’ll be even more.

Now you can imagine the interest in Clash Royale as an esport, given the prize pool. What could be better than playing a game and having the chance to win $$$. However, this game isn’t for everybody. It’s actually quite impossible to beat top players, as skill and experience is key.

But this doesn’t mean there isn’t a chance for anyone out there to be part of the CRL phenomenon. In fact, Supercell is organizing a Clash Royale League Challenge between March 21 – March 26, 2019. Details about this challenge:

  • There will be a level 9 cap, however you can play with your own deck
  • You get a free entry, however 3 losses and you are out
  • You can start playing the challenge again by paying 10 diamonds (if you lose 3 times)
  • If you get 20 wins, you will have the chance to join a Clash Royale League team
  • The 20 wins doesn’t guarantee you’ll be part of a CRL team, but you’ll move to CRL online qualifiers
  • You must be 16+ years old to continue onto the qualifiers.

Don’t get your hopes up though, it will be a rough challenge. The most skilled players will try to advance onto the online Clash Royale League qualifiers, and from there they might get picked by a CRL team. Another perk of winning 20 times is the fact that you’ll qualify for the World Cyber Games Festival (WCG), happening in Xi’an, China from July 18-21, one of the largest esport events worldwide. So this is going to be an interesting weekend.

Last year’s challenge had more than 6,700 players that won 20 times. There are five regions for the league (China, North America, Latin America, Europe and rest of Asia), each with 8 teams. So a total of 40 teams. Obviously only a few of those qualified entered a CRL team, but there’s a chance, why not. If you want to get your hopes up, here’s a video of someone winning 20 times last year in this challenge:

I on the other hand don’t have high hopes, I will however try to get as many wins but for different reasons – there’s a lot of prizes every 2 wins. In fact, here’s everything you can gain up to 20 wins:

  • 2 wins. 5,000 Gold.
  • 4 wins. 2 common trade tokens.
  • 6 wins. Legendary chest.
  • 8 wins. 2 rare trade tokens.
  • 10 wins. 2 epic trade tokens.
  • 12 wins. 20,000 Gold.
  • 14 wins. Legendary chest.
  • 16 wins. 2 legendary trade tokens.
  • 18 wins. 100,000 Gold.
  • 20 wins. Get a special emote.

There is also a guaranteed prize for participating of 20 gold and 2 cards. For 20 wins you get 3,000 gold and 300 cards. I hope to get between 8 and 10 wins, however I’ll wait until the last day of the challenge so that most top players will have already played by then :). As far as the best decks for Clash Royale League Challenge, just keep in mind that there’s a level 9 cap. I’ll probably go for the Golem Double Prince Beatdown deck: Golem, Dark Prince, Knight, Baby Dragon, Tornado, Elixir pump, Spark and Mega Minion.

I’ll try to counter my opponent’s attack and then push the Golem whenever I get a chance. I’ll test his spells (fireball, lightning, poison) with my elixir pump too. It has a high elixir cost (4.4), but that’s what the pump is for. Anyone else care to suggest a different deck, as I’m open to suggestions? If you do have the Ram Rider legendary card (I don’t), I also suggest trying the following deck for the Clash Royale League Challenge:

In the meantime, good luck to everyone, except those playing against me :)).
