Google Sky Map for Android (not Google Universe) lets you discover the night sky by pointing your phone somewhere in the sky. You heard it right, because this application can track your Android phone’s GPS location and show you a star based on your location. This will let you explore stars, planets and even constellations, not to mention that you’ll be able to learn the location of space objects visible from where you are. With the “compass” mode on, whenever you move your phone across the sky you’ll see real-time information on each viewable object, an astronomer’s dream come true. Out of the “compass” mode you can freely browse the indexed stellar objects.

Google Sky Map’s main features:

Search: You can search for planets, stars, constellations all through your phone.
Motion detection: Google Sky Map uses your GPS location, accelerometer, and compass in order to create a window with sky objects (explained) that moves with your phone.
Celestial objects: You can manually browse a sky map looking at stars, planets, constellations, cardinal points, Messier Objects and so on.
Navigation: An automatic mode lets Sky Map modify the map but there’s also a manual override that lets you move the map with your finger.
